For most of our workshops, limited in-home respite is available. If you need someone to care for your loved one so that you may attend a class, please indicate your need for respite upon registering.

 

Yes I Can! Kaiser, Sacramento

A series of FREE workshops for caregivers. The primary goal of this four-week series is to provide encouragement and practical support to family caregivers. Each class will introduce you to basic information and techniques that will be of immediate use to you in your caregiving role.

Join Mary Gillon, MPA, Regional Director, Alzheimer’s Association as she describes the symptoms and stages of Dementia.

Thursday, September 23rd – Compassionate Communication & Challenging Behaviors
One of the most challenging experiences for you as a caregiver, friend, or family member to go through is trying to effectively communicate to your loved one with dementia. You may become frustrated and irritated, especially when your loved one asks you the same question over and over. In this forum, you will learn to communicate compassionately with your loved one with dementia who may be exhibiting challenging behaviors. Presenter: TBA

Thursday, September 30th – Nutrition
You will learn the basics of nutrition and hydration needs of the elderly and chronically ill, as well as ways to encourage and assist your loved one to eat for better health. Presenter: Suzanne Anderson, RD

Thursday, October 7th – Caring for the Caregiver
Caring for a loved one is challenging, both physically and emotionally. Although you cannot stop the impact of your loved one’s illness, you can take responsibility for your own personal well-being. Come learn practical ways to cope with the stress of caring for someone while thriving as an individual. We will also discuss community resources designed to assist family caregivers in this process. There’s No Place Like Home: Finding Community Options

As our loved ones get older, they want to continue to live independently, despite increasing health problems or age-related concerns. While spouses and adult children often worry about their loved one’s situation, they are often unaware of local resources to help care for their loved one in the home.
